A New Era for Software Design

A new chapter has begun in the information age. What was thought to be only science fiction has now become a reality. Dassault Systèmes, the “3D Experience Company,” specializes in the creation of three-dimensional objects with the use of intricate software. Software is taking over the world of manufacturing. Instead of focusing on the final product, the company believes in a quick design and prototype service. CAD software, or computer-aided design, gives the user ultimate, creative freedom. What was only used by engineers in the workplace, is now soon to be at the fingertips of consumers across the country.
The goal of the company is to allow its users to design the products on their own. With the work of MySolidWorks, a subsidiary partner to Dassault Systèmes, this fantasy can be made possible. This software would allow for people to achieve cutting-edge work on their own. With the use of this software, one can create innovative ideas on a computer screen. Dassault Systèmes is closing the gap between design and manufacturing. The user has no limits with the vision of this company. Similar to the expedited ordering from Amazon, [DASTY] “virtually manufactures the part in a matter of minutes to hours in a supercomputer cluster.” Therefore, customers are able to see their results quickly. Quotes can then be processed by the company for the part in which the user desires.
What this article lacked was detail and real-life examples for what this software can do for its users. I would have liked to imagine what I could design. With some ideas, I, the consumer, would have been more fascinated and excited about this announcement. This article will catch the eyes of people in the information technology industry, but may be passed over by the regular guy. Not only does it appeal to the computer guys, but also to the average Joe that does not know the difference between hardware and software. This new program is compared to YELP* for manufacturing products. Where can someone get a product built based on their digital model at the right price? Reviews are left for the creators. This feature is highly overlooked in the article. This makes it simple and convenient for the consumer.

Dassault Systèmes has truly broken a barrier in the tech industry. Connecting the user to the technology in the most simplistic way is something the late Steve Jobs advocated for. The software will let the users do the work. There are no limits nor boundaries to what this new platform for Dassault Systèmes has to offer.
